Jo Dong Hyeok – Korean Drama Choa https://kdramachoa.com Liking Korean Drama, Music, and Movie Tue, 07 Feb 2012 16:04:38 +0000 en-US hourly 1 A Happy Ending, Brain Episode 20 (Final) https://kdramachoa.com/a-happy-ending-brain-episode-20-final/ https://kdramachoa.com/a-happy-ending-brain-episode-20-final/#comments Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:00:33 +0000 http://kdramachoa.com/?p=16956 After all of the hard times he had, Lee Kang Hoon deserves a happy ending, both in his career and love life. I like the way this drama presents a mature and un-cheesy story telling, but still put a little touch of drama typical endings for each main characters.

If you hope to see the continuation of the passionate kiss happened that night between Kang Hoon and Ji Hye as the opening of episode 20, you’ll be very disappointed. They’re giving us nothing further. So you can make up your own story about what happened to both at the rest of the night :D . Episode 20 started with  Kang Hoon’s successful high-risk surgery on his own (one of the best in Korea) professor, Kim Sang Cheol, became a talk on public and they’re having a TV program interview.

But then he finally found out that the surgery didn’t go that well. He couldn’t save Kim Sang Cheol’s sight, which was gradually degrading and facing blindness soon. It’s a very hard slap for Lee Kang Hoon. Alongside was his long history with Kim Sang Cheol related to his father’s death. On one side, he still held a grudge to Kim Sang Cheol for the malpractice he had done that caused Kang Hoon’s father’s death. On the other side, deep down Lee Kang Hoon realized that he’s just put on the blame to Kim Sang Cheol while he actually hated his father so much for being an alcoholic who always beat his mother. Lee Kang Hoon let out all his emotions and let himself showed some weakness in front of the girl he loved. Yoon Ji Hye was there as the biggest comfort for him.

Lee Kang Hoon insisted on running another surgery on Kim Sang Cheol, but when the time came, the professor decided to leave secretly. He just left a note for some clues on the study Lee Kang Hoon had been undergone. Kim Sang Cheol did that for both himself and Kang Hoon’s. He could start to live his life in a more peaceful world and Kang Hoon wouldn’t push himself too much to run another surgery and he could go on with his career.

After the sad moments and Kim Sang Cheol’s issue, as time went by, the hospital had a happy moment with the wedding of Yeo Bong Gu and Kang Hoon’s little sister, Ha Yeong. Hospital director, Dr. Hwang was as the pastor of the wedding ceremony, while Bom Joon had to face the truth that Bong Gu was the one Ha Yeong loved.

And another happy couple: Head Nurse Hong Eun Sook  and Dr. Jeo Dae Shik, finally being honest about each other’s feelings. The iceberg Head Nurse Hong finally accepted Dae Shik’s love. That man caught the bouquet flower Ha Yeong threw to all bachelors guests. He gave it to Head Nurse Hong…in her cool way. :)

But the happiness didn’t last long for Lee Kang Hoon. After scolding Ji Hye for taking over his patient and undergo an emergency surgery without his permission because it was Kang Hoon’s sister’s wedding, Lee Kang Hoon was actually asking her to participate in a conference alongside him, but ended up finding out that Ji Hye was going to quit from Chuna Hospital. Ji Hye was going back to her hometown and be a doctor in the best hospital there.

Kang Hoon came to Ji Hye to give her back her brain scanned image. He said it wouldn’t mean anything if she’s not around. Lee Kang Hoon was moving to another hospital, too and he asked her to go along with him. But Ji Hye’s decision was firm. She was kind of let both of them have a break time to really think, especially for Kang Hoon, if his feelings towards her was sincere and if they’re really meant to be together. Ji Hye gave back her brain scanned image and asked Kang Hoon to wait for her.

But Kang Hoon gave her back the image and said, “No, I don’t want to wait.” And his next line was –for me–actually a soft proposal but too Lee Kang Hoon’s style. He looked her straight in the eyes and said, “Just stay beside me.” He’s begging!!! But unfortunately, Ji Hye didn’t say anything, and Lee Kang Hoon left the room.

He thought Ji Hye would change her mind and finally ran for him. But he was wrong. Kang Hoon waited for Ji Hye to come to him on the corridor but she never came out. Meanwhile Ji Hye expecting Kang Hoon to go back to the room, but she never showed up. She ended crying while eating ramyeon.

Ji Hye was ready to leave, the same day Lee Kang Hoon was having an inauguration ceremony of his achievement getting the highest medical award in the country. Kang Hoon was actually going to call Ji Hye, but Go Jae Hak was too excited that he wouldn’t let Kang Hoon away for a while.

Ji Hye said good bye to Seo Joon Seok and then went to Lee Kang Hoon’s office. She left the brain scanned image on the table. The narration was: “Sonsaengnim, please listen to my heart. If you think you can’t live without me, please  look for me for even once. In this way, I will accept you forever.”

Ji Hye was leaving. What she didn’t expect was that the brain scanned image in an unbelievable way was blown by the wind –because the office window was opened by Kang Hoon earlier– and arrived right in front of her on the bus shelter where she’s waiting for the next bus to take her leave. She picked up the image and was surprise. It’s a kind of a clear sign that she shouldn’t go. She and Lee Kang Hoon were meant to be together.

Meanwhile, Lee Kang Hoon was on his way to the ceremony where he’s disillusioning that Kim Sang Cheol was there. the imaginary Kim Sang Cheol asked if Kang Hoon was content of his life. Kang Hoon smugly said yes. But then Kim Sang Cheol asked again if he was really happy for his achievement in career but ended up alone. Kang Hoon kept convincing himself that he was happy with everything.

Getting on to the stage, he hesitated for awhile and recalled the question from the imaginary Kim Sang Cheol if he was really happy then. Lee Kang Hoon paused there. He kind of knew that he wasn’t that happy. He’s losing Ji Hye. But in that very critical time, Ji Hye showed up.

Seeing Ji Hye came back and was really standing right in front of him, he realized that he was a really happy man. He was standing there  as an acknowledged neurosurgeon in the country who received the highest award in medical and the love of his life was not going anywhere and chose to stay beside him. Lee Kang Hoon finally smile and stepped forward to the microphone.

“Everyone, thank you for coming. I’m the surgeon, Lee Kang Hoon.”

Oh I was a bit sad this drama has finally come to an end. I think Korean drama needs more brilliant and brave story line like this one. It’s actually a serious drama with serious characters, but it’s very entertaining instead of tiring. Even though I had to close my eyes every time they go into details on surgery scenes, but in general I think it’s one of the best Korean dramas of the year 2011. I’m surely gonna miss these cool doctors…

I’ve still got Ojakgyo Brothers and kind of interested in watching the History of the Salary Man. But I think I have to give a try to Dream High 2 first. Kang So Ra’s character looks interesting.

Dr. Lee’s Saddest Moment in “Brain” Episode 13 https://kdramachoa.com/dr-lees-saddest-moment-in-brain-episode-13/ https://kdramachoa.com/dr-lees-saddest-moment-in-brain-episode-13/#comments Sat, 31 Dec 2011 02:32:40 +0000 http://kdramachoa.com/?p=16313 “Brain” episode 13 was so sad that I couldn’t help my self shading some tears. But there’s my favorite scene which I think it was very brilliant, and turned out that many media also talk about that. This scene proves how a great actor Shin Ha Kyun is. I promised myself to write about it

After the nerve wrecking surgery where Lee Kang Hoon’s hands were badly shaking but finally Kim Sang Cheol stepped in, the successful surgery couldn’t fight the destiny. In that one nice winter day, after having a nice walk with Kang Hoon, Ha Yeong and Ji Hye, Mrs.Lee finally passed away.

Mrs. Lee took her last breath accompanied by her most proud son and her daughter. Lee Kang Hoon’s tough defense had slowly shook down the last time he begged Kim Sang Cheol to lead his mother surgery, so that time seeing him crying again was an acceptable human response of a great loss. His hands were shaking badly again. Ha Yeong’s crying was so heart breaking. But it’s a good thing that all Kang Hoon’s colleagues were there. Ji Hye, of course, couldn’t help soundlessly crying too.

Lee Kang Hoon took a peace time for himself for awhile in a quiet corner of the hospital. But then his patient, the talkative-tweety-like Grandmother, came. She said that the doctor hadn’t visit her for quite a while and started talking about her endless story, like usual.

The Granny was still talking when suddenly Lee Kang Hoon said, “It was a polka dot dress.”

OMG I love the writer of this drama! How could she be very brilliant in choosing that first sentence?

Then Lee Kang Hoon started to tell a story about his childhood memory with his parents. He was going out to the amusement park with his father and his mother who was wearing a polka dot dress. He said his mother looked beautiful. Granny stopped talking for a while, confused that Doctor Lee’s talking was not in the same line as hers, but then she decided to continue talking. So these two people were talking about two different things in the same time!

Until Lee Kang Hoon got more emotional in his story, the Granny finally be quiet. Kang Hoon kept talking with crying and smiling and laughing in the same time. He continued the story about that very special moment where the three of them went into a restaurant. He wondered that at that moment his not-yet-an-alcoholic dad who often scolded his mother as non-pretty and smelled like food finally praised his mother as very pretty and even gave her a kiss on the her cheek. That moment made little Kang Hoon embarrassed that he intentionally dropped his fork and pretended to start searching it under the table. And then he was scolded by his father that if he’s not good with the fork, he would have a trouble eating western food in the future with such a bad table manner.

Lee Kang Hoon was talking, crying, expressing his parents’ kiss scene, smiling, laughing, and then crying again…made him enough to be mistaken as a loony. People might thought that he had gone crazy, but understanding his situation it was a very very heart breaking scene to watch.

All his colleagues looked at this scene from a distance. I think everyone could also feel his pain. Ji Hye couldn’t hold her streaming tears and even the stern junior Seung Man didn’t dare to continue watching…

I gave up holding my tears in this scene, too.  T_T

It was a very sad one nice winter afternoon for Doctor Lee Kang Hoon…

His mother had actually made a request that she wanted to be buried under the tree so she could watch the beautiful sunlight everyday. She loved sunlight.

And everyone accompanied Kang Hoon at that private funeral. Ha Yeong’s crying was still heart breaking and Ji Hye was there for her. In the middle of that sad moment, I loved seeing those hot men in black standing straight by the river :) And Jang Yoo Jin actually came too, but she stopped at a distance, crying silently.

But it was not a sad last day for Mrs. Lee. Earlier in that one nice morning she woke up and saw the warm sun light coming from the window. She said she wanted to have a walk outside to enjoy the sunlight. Ji Hye heard it and informed Kang Hoon. Then Kang Hoon asked the Head Nurse Hong to let him take his mother for walk that morning because the rest of the week would be just cloudy days. Head Nurse Hong finally agreed and told him to bring along the doctor who’s responsible of his mother (as a patient). The doctor was of course Yoon Ji Hye.

They took a walk to the nearby park. Then Mrs.Lee found the kindergarten kids were very cute and made her laugh. She said kids’ voices were beutiful and made her happy. So Ji Hye and Ha Yeong played along the kids to give Mrs. Lee the most beautiful voices: the kids’ laughter.

It was a very nice short moment for Mrs. Lee and her son and daughter, and also for Yoon Ji Hye that she could do the best to support the man she loved and his family.

Don’t you wanna cry again?

I do. T_T

But let’s not get too long…

:)

Anyway, really… Shin Ha Kyun deserves the praises after that excellent acting on that one particular scene. The netizens were heavily talked about it. I hope the KBS drama Daesang awards panels hadn’t yet decided who’s gonna get the Ultimate Daesang Award winner for actor until they saw that scene.

For those who support Shin Ha Kyun for KBS Drama Daesang Award, let’s hope for the best tonight. They’re going to hold the event tonight, December 31 2011.

Heart Pounding Moments in “Brain” Episode 11-12 https://kdramachoa.com/heart-pounding-moments-in-brain-episode-11-12/ https://kdramachoa.com/heart-pounding-moments-in-brain-episode-11-12/#comments Sat, 24 Dec 2011 13:19:44 +0000 http://kdramachoa.com/?p=16153 KBS drama’s “Brain” might not starred with any youth idol, but this drama is absolutely recommended. Very good one. And I can say that if many people had thought that Park Si Hoo, through his brilliant acting in “Princess’ Man”, deserves this year’s KBS’s Best Leading Actor Award, I think he has a very tough competition with Shin Ha Kyun.

“Brain” this week, episode 11-12, was getting more and more emotional. One thing all viewers could relieve about is the fact that Ji Hye’s eventually not alone in love :) I couldn’t hold my self to scream out loud a “yeaaaayyy!” when it happened. But don’t ever expect any typical romantic love confession.

~Episode 11

Lee Kang Hoon finally came back to Chunha Hospital and “begged” (of course in Lee Gang Hoon’s way) Kim Sang Cheol to let him be involved in his research project. Kim Sang Cheol rejected him, but Lee Kang Hoon did the kind of “I won’t move from your office door before you accept me” action.

Kim Sang Cheol asked if what he’s doing was sincerely because the fact that his mom was suffered from a severe cancer and hospitalized in Chunha Hospital or it was just part of his ambitious plan. Lee Kang Hoon asked,”It is because I AM Lee Kang Hoon that you can’t accept me, right? Why?” Kim Sang Cheol said,”Because you have done so many bad things.” And then Kim Sang Cheol left his office for home.

Ji Hye came to support Lee Kang Hoon in her calm and soothing way. She insisted on staying even though Lee Kang Hoon told her to leave. Her stubbornness upset him like always that he grabbed her up and screamed, “Do you think this will really help me? Why are you doing this??” And her cool and confident way Ji Hye just asked back, “Do you really not know?” Lee Kang Hoon couldn’t answer her and gave up.

While Kim Sang Cheol was cycling home he kept rethinking about Lee Kang Hoon’s proposal to join his research team, Ji Hye had fallen asleep. Lee Kang Hoon was about to take off his suit for Ji Hye when Kim Sang Cheol showed up again in his office.

Then in short, Lee Kang Hoon was finally accepted to work with Kim Sang Cheol’s team, together with Ji Hye. And at one moment the clumsy Ji Hye accidently cut her finger, sighing “ooh, again…”, and was looking for the band aid. Lee Kang Hoon’s concentration was distracted, so he took out the first aid box, went to Ji Hye’s desk (in front of his, divided by a rack), grabbed her wounded finger and started to treat it. He said things cynically and in a brusque way, but Ji Hye (and us!) kind of knew that he actually cared for her.

But reaching the end of the episode, the upset Joon Seok came into Lee Kang Hoon’s office and confronted him about using Ji Hye just to make him upset. Lee Kang Hoon just smirked, “Are you really mad? Oh I have done a good job. Should I make it any worse?” Then he was humming the wedding  marching song. Joon Seok was about to be furious, but they finally realized there was a third person listened to their conversation.

~Episode 12

Jumping into the next episode. Ji Hye was very upset when she heard the whole things Lee Kang Hoon said to Joon Seok. She fell sick. Lee Kang Hoon hesitated several times to have a look at her condition but then he was drown into work. And then Lee Kang Hoon found out that Jang Yoo Jin made a big contribution in the research fund, so he went on a dinner ‘date’ with her. Ji Hye saw the scene when  Yoo Jin drove Kang Hoon back to the hospital.

In the lab, Ji Hye acted cold and asked Kang Hoon about the date. But he didn’t respond quickly, as usual. She was about to leave the room when Kang Hoon suddenly said that what he said to Joo Seok wasn’t sincere and the event with Jang Yoo Jin wasn’t a date, it was a ‘thank you’ dinner out.

Then the brave Ji Hye gave Kang Hoon this picture:

“It’s my heart (feelings). If you don’t feel the same and think about dating another woman, just throw it here.” She pointed a dust bin with her foot. And the next scene was unbelievable! Look what he did…

I was so happy that the iceberg finally couldn’t avoid the four letters: LOVE. :D A big “Yeaaay!” here. I really thought he would tear the picture and toss it into the dust bin, but it was so an “awww” moment when he put the picture abruptly into his pocket. His expression really didn’t match. :)

Ji Hye of course couldn’t believe it either. She left the room with a very happy feelings that she couldn’t help dancing and jumping around on her steps. And take a look at this very quick smile of Lee Kang Hoon… awww

Then we jump into the end of the episode. Kang Hoon was so desperate to give his mother the unpublished serum from the lab. At first Kim Sang Cheol was against him because it was very risky, but looking at Kang Hoon’s desperation, he finally let him get some. Kang Hoon’s mom condition was a bit better. But then a problem came when the mother suddenly disappear. Lee Kang Hoon, his sister and Ji Hye looked around the hospital. The mother went somewhere secretly at night. And when the mother finally came back to the hospital, she collapsed and her condition was critical.

Lee Kang Hoon insisted on going for surgery. He looked so desperate. Joon Seok came and told him that undergoing such a surgery in her condition was impossible. Kim Sang Cheol also came and said the same thing. But Kang Hoon listened to none and desperately pleaded for  Kim Sang Cheol to do the surgery. It was very heart breaking moment.

“Do you really will let her die? You will kill the wife of the man you’ve killed?” The other doctors were surprised about that. Kim Sang Cheol said, “You still suspect me?” And then they were silent when they heard the heart beat of Kang Hoon’s mother went abnormal.

That conversation is related to the issue of Lee Kang Hoon’s father’s dead. He found out that the in charge doctor who underwent his father’s brain surgery was actually Kim Sang Cheol. He even called Kim Sang Cheol a murderer when he found out. But Kim Sang Cheol said it wasn’t because of his lack competence.

Watching Lee Kang Hoon’s hard life in “Brain” gave me the same suffocating heart break feelings as when I was watching “Capital Scandal” and “The Devil”. I love the presence of Yoon Ji Hye in Lee Kang Hoon’s life. She would be the last strength for him to survive the cruel world.

“Brain” Casts Hidden Smiles https://kdramachoa.com/brain-casts-hidden-smiles/ https://kdramachoa.com/brain-casts-hidden-smiles/#comments Tue, 13 Dec 2011 05:12:19 +0000 http://kdramachoa.com/?p=15930 I’ve been actually following drama “Brain” since it was first aired and Shin Ha Kyun’s character, Lee Kang Hoon, took my attention right away. As I often say that I love stories with antagonist as the leading character, and this drama is certainly one of them. It’s also one of the rare dramas that do not have chaebol thingy. The only reason I don’t write summary for this one is because it has so many surgery scenes with details on human brains…well, there’s a reason why I refused to go to med school :p . I just can’t stand it if I have to make the stills for it.

As we know, this is a very serious drama, with Lee Kang Hoon’s ambition as the main conflict in the story. We hardly see comical character (except for the clumsy Bong Koo, played by Kwon Se In) or burst of laughter. The light and cheerful character we can only find in Ji Hye (Choi Jeong Won) and doctor Kim Sang Cheol (Jeong Jin Yeong), my second most favorite character.

Dr. Kang Hoon once laughed (which surprised me alot!), but it wasn’t the kind of laugh that came from his heart. He also smiles sometimes, but neither the laughs or smiles ever reach his eyes…if you get what i mean.
So it’s very refreshing to see the stills from behind the camera where all the casts look cheerful and actually very friendly towards each other. Even the rivalry between Kang Hoon and Joon Seok doesn’t mean they are rival for real. In fact they’ve become best friends. Thanks for KBS to release them.

Joon Seok (Jo Dong Hyeok), Kang Hoon (Shin Ha Kyun) and Bong Koo (Kwon Se In) are actually best friends on the filming set. And look at Shin Ha Kyun nice smiles! He’s totally different from his stern-looked Kang Hoon.

The conflict is getting hotter for this drama. Kang Hoon’s character is getting more complicated. If you haven’t had any chance to watch this drama, it’s worth watching, especially if you like Hollywood’s serials like “ER” or “House”.

“Brain” After “Poseidon” on KBS Monday-Tuesday Drama https://kdramachoa.com/brain-after-poseidon-on-kbs-monday-tuesday-drama/ https://kdramachoa.com/brain-after-poseidon-on-kbs-monday-tuesday-drama/#comments Sun, 13 Nov 2011 05:47:50 +0000 http://kdramachoa.com/?p=15240 New KBS medical-theme drama will start airing on November 14, which is tomorrow night. Poseidon wrapped up last week with of course a happy ending for everyone.

This drama tells about the story of neurologists in the hospital and also their conflicts. The main rivalry will be between the famous neurologist, Kim Sang Chul (played by Jeong Jin Yeong) and the ambitious neurosurgeon, Lee Kang Hoon (played by Shin Ha Kyun).

The filming set was built to be as similar as the real hospital cost about 4 billion won. This show is directed by Yoo Hyeon Ki and writer Yoon Kyeong Ah, the director-writer collaboration on “God of Study.” With such a high budget and supported by well-known names, this drama expected a high positive response from viewers.

As for me, I just told Blossom that I’m just tired of “chaebol” romance-conflict in Korean drama and very look forward on seeing non-chaebol thingy drama to watch, after Poseidon, and probably to write the summary too. I think this drama will be something like Hollywood’s “ER” rather than “Grey’s Anatomy”. I’ll be more than happy if there will be a lunatic character like dr.Greg House in “House” (my favorite of all time!). Therefore, even though I bet there will be many medical language, especially about neurology, in this drama, I have quite a high expectation for it. I’m gonna have a try to watch it tomorrow. And if I find it more interesting than Man of Honor (Glory Jane), i’ll be happy to write the summary.

They held the praying ceremony on October 20th at the filming set, in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

Besides Shin Ha Kyun and Kim Sang Chul, this drama is also supported by Choi Jung Won, Jo Dong Hyeok, Lee Sung Min, and many more.

And I found out that the cute Secretary Park Hoon from drama “Lie to Me”, Kwon Se In, will be playing in this drama as well. Hope his character will be as freshing as his character as Park Hoon. :)
