Baker King, Kim Tak Gu Episode 19 Summary
I wish I could just pack episode 19-20 summaries into one…but I’ve got a lot of things to say, so I’m doing it one by one. I guess if I could give a theme for this episode, I’d call it: the unstopable anger…everybody, beside Tak Gu, seemed to be angry to the top of their head in this episode and the old victims started to make a real move..
Let’s first refresh to the very touching ending of episode 18. Tak Gu cried like a little boy and that just broke my heart into pieces…
Majun realized the event and knew things were gonna get tougher for him, so he attacked Tak Gu again with his words. Tak Gu on the other hand, started to treat Majun as a real younger brother. He even challenged Majun to acknowledge him as a hyungnim ~big bro~ if he could beat him in the competition. Majun, with a high self confident said that he’s gonna be the one who beat him. and when that time came, Tak Gu should go so far away from his life forever.
I like the way Tak Gu then said, “No, you won’t beat me. I will win this competition.”
The next day the Majun-Tak Gu war getting more intense. Tak Gu asked Misun for a clue and she said “fermentation”. Either Tak Gu did it in purpose or he just forgot he’s not alone there, he rephrase the word and Majun heard it. Then they both started to search for the answer.
Tak Gu went to the market to study all kinds of fermented foods. I recognized kimchi
Meanwhile Majun went to the library and dealt with a bunch of theory books. This is one of the basic differences between the two men. What they didn’t know was actually Misun gave that “fermentation” word clue under Mr. Palbong’s order. He wanted them to succeed but he didn’t want to give them a “freepass” that easily. Wise Mr. Palbong…
Majun used GeoSong’s laboratory for research but he didn’t do it by himself. Instead, he made the company researcher did it for him. And just in the right moment, Director Gu found out about it and got furious. He knew Majun was cheating againts Tak Gu for the competition…so he banned Majun from using anyone or anyplace from the company for his personal benefit.
I felt something strange in the way Director Gu scolded Majun. I think somehow this man had a certain doubt that Majun might not be his blood..or he just knew it and continued on having Majun as his son? I also think that Director Gu had a certain anger to Majun…I still can’t clearly read the way he looked at Majun, but i’m pretty sure he did hide something.
Like a whining child always seek for a candy, Majun visited Yu Gyeong for soothing his troubled mind. He lifted the topic of his previous proposal, but Yu Gyeong kept pushing him away…
When Majun got home, he found the house was empty. A tempation to have a sneak peek on his teacher’s room drove him to step closer. He found the room was empty and the master’s secret book was on the table. Majun’s got the guts to set his feet across the door…he slowly reached the book and he opened it. He found a word “alcohol”. But right in that moment, Mr. Palbong caught him.
Majun apologize and Mr. Palbong didn’t seem to be angry. He said it took him years to succeed in finding the right ingredient to replace yeast to make bread. And according to him, Tak Gu was not an easy competitor for Majun…and that’s just made that guy got angrier inside.
Tak Gu went to GeoSong to find Yu Gyeong and he did. They went out for a date. Yu Gyeong confessed her true feeling to Tak Gu and apologize for keeping everything a secret from him. But Tak Gu was always the positive thinker. He just smiled and acted like everything was alright.
Right after the date, Yu Gyeong decided to let his anger go away and forgot about everything. But then a bunch of big guys came and harmed her. she was pushed to sign a resignation letter…and that moment turned everything around
So who’s got the best smile in the next morning? She’s of course Madame Seo.
If Majun started to take some real action for war againts Tak Gu…the old folks also started to make real movements. Tak Gu’s mom decided to do so. Director Gu was openly saying he’s bringing Tak Gu into the company, along with Majun. I could sense that Director Gu was also officially announcing war to his wife.
And after Directore Gu was of course Yu Gyeong. She asked for Madame Seo to apologize to her but she refused to do so…Yu Gyeong then only said, “Then, I’ll be seeing you again soon, Ma’am.” Ohh I had a bad feeling about it
The day of the competition was getting closer. Majun and Tak Gu tried their best to got the right ingredient to replace yeast. However, Majun came up with a very evil plan to harm Tak Gu. He saw an article in a book about a poisonous herb. He ordered it from a store…and I really had a bad feeling about it, too.

Surprisingly ~if not desperately, Majun came up with an idea of working together with Tak Gu. With his skill and Tak Gu’s great sense, they would be more effective. I didn’t know why, but i was getting worrier about it. Majun had to come up with a very evil plan and I hated it.
I like Misun’s presence for Tak Gu. She’s such a very good friend…
However, she always caught in the middle of unlikely situations, like that night when she accidently saw Yu Gyeong and Majun in front of the bakery. She could sense something wasn’t right between the two…
Yu Gyeong finally decided to take Majun’s proposal. what an idiot, I hate her idea… However, if I were in her position, I might be taking the same way too. Yu Gyeong’s character was actually a very strong one, but she’s just too weak inside, just like Majun. Anger and hatred ate them alive.
Meanwhile, Director Gu got a mysterious phone number from a mysterious woman. When he finally decided to pick up the phone and dialed the number…he would be surprise to hear the familiar voice on the other side of the line…
If you feel like there’re lots of things still hanging on the air without any good sub-closing for this episode, it’s just like that. I think episode 19 and 20 are very much dependent to each other, so just let the angst hanging on the air for a while. I’ll be back with the next summary hopefully soon..
