Another Japanese Drama Remake: “Naughty Kiss”

This beutiful woman name is Park Bo Young (ooh, look at her wonderful dress, so fresh!). Rumor has it that she’s going to be the leading actress for the remake of Japanese dorama “Naughty Kiss”. But we all need to wait for the confirmation that’ll be announced at the end of this June.

I think Korea has been too far outran by Taiwan in remaking Japanese Asia-wide popular dramas. “Naughty Kiss” was actually based on Japanese manga (comic) with the same title,イタズラなKiss (Itazura na kiss). The Japanese dorama version (9 episodes) had been aired as long time ago as 1996, having actress Aiko Sato played as the hilariously clumsy girl, Kotoko Aihara, and actor Takashi Kashiwabara as the cool-brainy boy named Naoki Irie.

Taiwan had made the remake in 2005-2006 with the title “They Started With a Kiss” (30 episodes) and the sequel in 2007-2008 titled “They Started With a Kiss 2” or also known as “They Kiss Again” (20 episodes). Both dramas had Ariel Lin (as Yuan Xiang Qin) and Joe Chen (as Jiang Zhi Shu) for the main leads.

The same case happened with the remake of “Hana Yori Dango” or also known as “Boys Before Flower”. The Taiwanese version, “Meteor Garden”, made a hit across East and South-East Asia after its 1st airing in 2001. The F4 members (Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu) became amazingly popular, as well as Shan Cai’s character (Barbie Hsu). It also followed by the sequel, “Meteor Garden 2”, in 2002. Korea, on the other hand, just made the remake in 2009. Thankfully it also made a hit.
I guess Korean entertainment industry has its own culture and doesn’t seem to be fond of remaking foreign hit dramas. But If they wanted to “compete” the Taiwanese entertainment industry(concerning the Asian wide market advantages), I think they should start to rethink of it and take more attention to this issue.
