Nice Guy (Innocent Man) Episode 20 Quick Summary [Final]

For Nice Guy final episode tonight, I really really hoped for a happy ending. Most of all characters in this drama have been unfortunate in their lives and they deserve another chance to start over. But what this drama gives us is…

Anyway, let’s get back to where this show ended yesterday, on episode 19.

Ma Ru took Eun Gi’s hand and said, “Eun Gi, Let’s run away. To wherever you like. To the place where no one can find and no one knows us.” But to Ma Ru’s surprise (but not me, of course, I could see it coming) Eun Gi put away Ma Ru’s hand and said she doesn’t want to do it. “We’ve originally have broken up long ago, anyway. And now for me, Tae San and finding out the truth about what really happened to my father and to Attorney Park is more important than you.” Then Eun Gi got a call, so she had a good reason to excuse herself from the tense situation. She stood up and ready to go, but Ma Ru suddenly reached her and hugged her tight. It took a moment, Eun Gi was speechless, but Ma Ru finally let go of her with a smile. “Alright,” he said, “just go.” And he really did let go of Eun Gi, but with an obvious unwillingness. Eun Gi walked away, but actually still overwhelmed by Ma Ru’s sudden hug.

Eun Gi was meeting Secretary Jo, whose car was seen tailing Attorney Park. Of course he played innocent. “Okay, then please have a seat,” Eun Gi’s said politely. Secretary Jo was about to sit, but Eun Gu suddenly kicked hard the chair away and that man dropped on the floor. I was so surprised that the old Eun Gi who could use a harsh way was really back.  “Who ordered you? I know you’re ordered by someone and I want to meet him. Call the person who ordered you. Call him for sure,” threatened Eun Gi.

Ma Ru was meeting Jae Hee telling her to go to the police tomorrow to turn herself in, despite Jae Hee’s offer for evidence exchanged. “There’s no way for you to run away, anyway now so please go turn yourself in to the police. I told you that I will wait for you, so go to the police,” said Ma Ru. “You said it’s not love,” said Jae Hee. “Then I don’t want to do it. I’d rather die than do that. Let’s die together Ma Ru. It’s hell for us being alive” But Ma Ru rejected the offer straight forwardly. “If you want to die, die alone. I want to live mylife once again as my wish.I will never die.” Right in the last sentence, Ma Ru got an attack again, but he tried to hide it from Jae Hee. He left her house as soon as he could.

Eun Gi was beside Attorney Park when she remembered how Ma Ru asked her to runaway together. She massaged his hand and saw some fingers were moving.

Jae Gil went home and found Ma Ru was lying unconcious on the floor. Sending Ma Ru to the hospital and calling Choco, Jae Gil finally couldn’t hide anymore about Ma Ru’s condition to Choco. She was so shock and wondered how she could have no knowledge at all about Ma Ru’s sickness. Then she was about to enter Ma Ru’s room, but she refrained and left.

Ma Ru’s doctor was the same doctor as Seo Eun Gi. He insisted on Ma Ru getting the surgery as soon as next morning. He asked Ma Ru if he had anything he wanted to do before die. “If you want something to eat go eat. If you want to do something go do it. If you have a love or gratitude confession go do it.” So it was Ma Ru who asked that doctor to help Eun Gi getting back her memories. And that doctor asked Ma Ru to stay alive. Ahh this doctor was Ma Ru’s professor, that’s why they’re close to each other. (Why it took me this long, sorry   )

In another part of the hospital, Attorney Park regained his consciousness.

Jae Hee was visited by her brother. He said he would really kill Kang Ma Ru. He still demanded the officetell. But he said it’s because of Choco who kept feeding him, while he’s visiting Ma Ru’s house, and even cooked him seaweed soup on his birthday (it’s Korean custom to eat seaweed soup on birthday), he now has no more heart to kill Ma Ru. “But he’s going to die anyway, even though I don’t kill him,” said Jae Shin. “What did you say?” Jae Hee was startled by the words. “Ma Ru will die anyway? Why??”

Apparently, Choco went to the karaoke to shrug away her sadness. JAe Gil persuaded her to see Ma Ru before he’s undergoing the surgery. Choco said she wouldn’t be meeting MA Ru until after the surgery. She said during the time when Ma Ru was in prison, she was frustrated and almost die herself. “But at that moment I thought ‘My brother has not see me, I cannot die now.’ So if I don’t see him now, probably he would think the same way too and stay alive after the surgery.” Jae Gil understood what Choco meant. Then he got a call, it was Jae Hee. She’s asking where Ma Ru was.

Right before Jae Hee was going to the hospital to see Ma Ru, Eun Gi came. She’s coming home to pack her clothes. JAe Hee,  surprisingly, came to Eun Gi’s room to tell her that Ma Ru is sick, really really sick. So Eun Gi got a confirmation from Jae Gil. That man told her that after the accident, it was not only her whose head was wounded. It was to wait for her and to take care of her that Ma Ru had been postponing his surgery. Eun Gi arrived in front of Ma Ru’s ward and was about to opened the door. But she hesitated. “The time he’s together with you was his best happy moment of life, even though it was only for a short time.” That’s also what Jae Gil had told Eun Gi. Inside the room, Ma Ru kind of sensed that someone was behind his door. but when he opened it, no one was there.

Eun Gi went out to the street remembering all the harsh words she had told Ma Ru before. Regretting it. She broke down and cried on the street, alone. Meanwhile Jae Hee was also crying alone in her room. So these two women were crying for the same man at two different places, alone.

Suddenly Jae Hee got a call from Secretary Ahn. He told her that his mission is not yet accomplished. He wouldn’t stop until there’s no Seo Eun Gi in Tae San Group. Secretary Ahn saw the lost-in-contemplation Seo Eun Gi was walking on the street. Jae Hee was panic and tried to inform Eun Gi, but Eun Gi hung up her phone reading whom the caller was. Jae Hee was frustrated.

Jae Gil came to Ma Ru. He asked if Eun Gi came to visit him. Ma Ru was confused. “When did she came?” asked Ma Ru. Then he went out to the street to search for her. Eun Gi was still in her deep thought, and then suddenly turned her step around and run back to the hospital. Ma Ru was out on the street and was waiting for the red light turn green to cross it. There he finally saw Eun Gi on the other end of the crossing. They saw each other and smiled. When the light turn green, the approached each other slowly….(my question was why?? why walked slowly instead of running towards each other??  X|  )

Ma Ru almost reach Eun Gi, but then he saw Secretary Ahn’s face under a cap approaching Eun Gi from behind. On that very second, he sensed something deadly would likely to happen…soon. So he hurriedly shielded Eun Gi and received the stab. It was so fast that no one notice, not even Eun Gi. All she knew was Ma Ru hurriedly catch her and hugged her tight.

BUT, if you expected a slowly drop on the street Ma Ru, and blood would start to flow like a stream and Eun Gi was crying over his unconscious body….you will be disappointed. There’s no such a scene.

Instead, they managed to sit down on a bench at the nearby park. If you notice, Ma Ru was holding his right lower stomach. It still make sense assuming Secretary Ahn’s knife seemed to be a small one.

He said that he’s actually very tired today because of his illness attack. “So if you have something to say, just wait until tomorrow. I have so many things to tell you, but I will tell you tomorrow too.” Eun Gi understood and agreed. “but I have something to ask,” she said. “That night in the tunnel, why didn’t your car dodge?” Ma Ru just casually said, “I dont know, I didn’t think well at that time. But I will tell you more tomorrow.” Ma Ru was sending Eun Gi to ride taxi to go home. Eun Gi agreed again. And before getting into the taxi, Eun Gi kissed Ma Ru..passionately. At first Ma Ru was startled but they then they kissed alright. “I’ll see you tomorrow morning,” said Eun Gi. “I have something to thank Han Jae Hee for. it’s because she let me meet Kang Ma Ru.”

JAe Hee turned herself in to the police. She’s giving her testimony without any lawyer.

Right after Eun Gi left with the taxi, Ma Ru checked his wound. It’s bleeding so bad.

He tried to walk back to the hospital. In the voice over we could hear Ma Ru’s heart. “I didn’t tell Eun Gi the real reason why I didn’t dodge my car at that time. I actually had a reason. The reason was because that time I had enough of this world and thought that even if I end my life, it didn’t matter for the world. That’s what I thought at that time. And in the next life, I want to meet Eun Gi again and date as ordinary people, in an ordinary world and start over with the person I love. I also prayed to God for that.”

Ma Ru finally dropped on his way. He lied on the quite dark pathway…alone.

7 years later.

Choco’s little girl was practicing for audition. Her name was Park Seng Gil. She’s her daughter with Jae Gil, of course. The two were happily married. Jae Hee’s brother opened a fried chicken restaurant and he’s hitting on Secretary Hyeon.

Han Jae Hee parked her car in front of the prison. Someone got discharged that day: Secretary Ahn. He saw Jae Hee, approached her car. But he saw Jae Hee was sleeping and decided to turn away. Jae Hee woke up and got off her car hurriedly to call him, but Attorney Park who suddenly came from nowhere, prevented her. She was realeased few months earlier from the prison. Eun Seok had been taken care by Eun Gi all these time, and still refused to meet her ever since. “If you meet Eun Gi, please tell her my gratitude for what she had done,” said Jae Hee. Underline this dialogue everyone! This mean Attorney Park didn’t end up with Eun Gi.

Somewhere in a coastal town. Eun Gi was in a rush carrying a sick little girl on her back. She referred herself as “onnie” so that little girl was not her daughter. no. She’s sending that girl to a small clinic in the town. After handed her over to the nurse, Eun Gi excused herself to close her shop first before coming back again. She looked nervous while closing her small shop, and when she got back to the clinic, we know the reason.

A young male doctor was speaking with the little girl. He’s Ma Ru.

From that little girl accent, we could notice that the location of that small town is somewhere in the southern area of the country. That girl asked if Ma Ru really graduated from US. “Is it true that before going to the US, Doctor’s head was injured and after you received the surgery you lost all your memories?” He confirmed what that girl said as true. And the girl asked if the women in US were pretty but why he’s still alone. Then the little girl was trying to match the doctor with the big sister who’s been taking care of her all this time, who was of course Eun Gi. Ma Ru seemed really didn’t recognize Eun Gi.

Ma Ru spent an evening at Eun Gi’s shop. Eun Gi secretly took picture of Ma Ru and then got caught.Ma Ru summoned her and checked on her camera. He found all his pictures. “Are you a paparazzi or something?” he asked. “Quite similar,” said Eun Gi. Ma Ru asked why she did that. Eun Gi didn’t hide her admiration for Ma Ru. “Because you are a handsome man Lee Sang Hyeon.” Ma Ru asked since when she liked him. She said since recently. “Recently, when?” asked Ma Ru again. Eun Gi didn’t answerd.

Another one evening. Eun Gi ran her life as usual, riding bike around the town. Ma Ru came to her shop and found a message that Eun Gi was off somewhere. So Ma Ru decided to wait for her on a bench by the street. Eun Gi saw Ma Ru was sitting there, sensing that he’s actually waiting for her. She sat at the other end of the bench. Then Ma Ru handed Eun Gi the little red box he had had long ago…the little red box he wanted to give Eun Gi but refrained because he found out Eun Gi’s memories had back. Eun Gi opened it up and found a couple of rings, wedding rings. Eun Gi realized that Ma Ru has gained his memories back. They both smiled to each other.

Along with the last scene, we could hear Ma Ru’s voice over: “In the next life, I want to meet Eun Gi again and date as ordinary people, in an ordinary world and start over with the person I love. I prayed to God that same pray again. And thank you. Now, I am happy.”

…and this drama does throw a sweet happy ending. :)

I could hear viewers feel relieve… :D

[1, 2, 3, 4]

Aah we’re finally here. All our curiosities are paid off well. We got a happy ending. I love sad ending stories, but sometimes, happy ending is better after all watching the tiring unfortunate lives of the characters. Ma Ru and Eun Gi really do deserve a start over in their bitter lives.

I thank you, readers, a big bunch for following this drama with me here, reading my quick summary. I’m sorry I cannot reply or contribute in the commentary, but I do read all your comments. Thanks again. And see you in the next summary project.

I’ve been expecting Moon Geun Yeong- Park Si Hoo “Alice” and Cha Tae Hyeon-UEe “Jeon Woo Chi”. I think need lighter story to follow now. But let see. I’ll see you guys again soon ;)

  12. thanks for your quick summary! i enjoyed reading it and thanks to you i could satisfy my curiosity and could understand what wnet on before the subs are done! so a bunch of thanks for your sincere efforts!

i know, i might be hated to say this but i feel betrayed somehow. Maybe because i embraced myself for the big bad, THE melo ending, thought that Maru would die, like the previous works of the same screenwriter, so i was half sure that he would die, and read through the whole series with that expectation. so now that they get a happy ending with some loose ends, i feel betrayed and not satisfied at all! who is with me on this one?

  13. thank u so muuuuch,
    Gud Luck…
    thank u…….kis kis

  14. thank u so muuuuch,
    Gud Luck…

  15. Hi thanks for the recap but who is lee sang hyeon?

    • I wasn’t really sure but I heard that name…could it be possible that he changed his name? no? just skip the detail and confirm it when the sub is out on the video :) thanks

  16. Thanks for the super fast recap… muaks

  17. i’m so happy with the ending, i feel like jumping now knowing that Maru and Eun Gi end up together.. WoW! finally, Maru is Happy.. so this is what his song is all about..“In the next life, I want to meet Eun Gi again and date as ordinary people, in an ordinary world and start over with the person I love. I prayed to God that same pray again. And thank you. Now, I am happy.”hahahah’ i thought it would just be two years later but then its 7years later so that makes Maru 39 years old???..whahahahaha’ anyways’ i’m really happy for the ending..((((:

  18. Thank you so much for your recap! But, i have a question. In the end, did Ma ru remember Eun gi or no ?

    • dear Nahee, with Ma Ru giving Eun Gi the wedding rings he had prepared long ago, of course it indicates he regained his memory :)

    • @nahee, of course he remembered everything, wedding ring was the proof that his memory was back… it’s just that the way the writer show how maru’s memory is back is somewhat different from the ordinary story

  19. omgahh thank you sooo much for writing a summary of this last episode! I was very confused to what has happened to him! but thanks to you u fully understand! im happy tat at the end they get to be together! :)

  20. OMG. Thank you for all of the recaps. I have been reading it for alll of the episodes. Thank You so much. Hope You will continue to do this.

  21. Thanks So Much ! The Ending Was Awesome ! Thanks ! <3 :)

  22. actually, from the moment Maru’s sickeness was revealed i had a hope that he will live because he is still a doctor even if he did not finished the college, but i already had a feeling that the ending will be Maru being a doctor, so positive that the writer will not discouraged the viewer. But what keeps me going to watch this drama is that, i want to know how will the story goes up to the end and that i have no idea, it’s just i want to think the positive, but still as i watched this drama i always had a bad feeling every night thinking what will happen next… at last… now am relieved… thanks for the happy ending… it was really so sweet.

  23. atlast….
i was really tensed whether if there’s gonna be any unfortunate ending. HALLELUJAH!!! no tragedies at the end…. but i shed tears for the last sentence…. hats off for the script writer and for the actors.

they do know how to control peoples emotions

  24. OMGOSH the recaps helped
I was really confused about the ending, like it didn’t make sense to me, but this helped!
    WONDERFUL DRAMA!
    ONE OF THE BEST!
and thank you to your summaries! :D

  25. I love the ending…Been waiting for the summary since last night..I couldn’t sleep thinking of the ending. Although I was expecting much more like an extension of 2 more episodes perhaps (hehehe)…anyway, I it’s good to know that they ended up together…Really love Song Joong Ki and Moon Chae Won…hope the’ll become a REAL COUPLE (secretly, I hope)!!!

Thank you so much for all the summaries..It’s the best…

  26. I was actually watching the earlier episodes but stopped because I don’t have time. I am happy to know that this drama has a happy ending. Thank you for the hard work. I really appreciate it.

  27. I’m sorry but I watched the episode before, but because I was confused with the ending I checked this summary and still confused. What I meant to ask is HOW did Maru regained his memory? In the story Maru was witnessed that he kept visiting Eun Gi’s bakery shop and ate the worst sandwich routinely, meaning he remembered her for quite a while. Does that mean he actually never lost his memory and pretended to be? Sorry but please if someone understand explain this to me >_<

    • yup he should have regain his memory a long time ago, but like he wished, that he and eun gi would meet again like ordinary people, and love each other like ordinary people. hence he pretended that he had lost his memory, to lead an ordinary life (just like what he wanted). but still, it is a happy ending, he and eun gi ended up together.
I hope this help you to understand better.

  28. WOOWW… I’m so happy with how the things end!! I really love the drama and the casts, and I really love your excellent quick summaries. Thank you so much for the hard work. Now, I can sleep tight tonight.

  29. Ey? I read somewhere, that
    “maru died.

THE HAPPY ENDING PART IS MARU’S IMAGINATION
HE IMAGINES THE SCENES AND PRAY TO GOD BEFORE HE DIES……..
    THE MONOLOGUE=HIS PRAYER..HIS LAST WORDS….”

    quote from: http://missmoniqueunique.tumblr.com/

    • I don’t think it’s an imagination. And even an interview with Song jung Ki confirmed that. http://news.naver.com/main/read.nhn?mode=LSD&mid=shm&sid1=106&oid=022&aid=0002461480
If you translate that article, in paragraph 6, it said that at the last episode that aired on November 15, Kang Ma Ru (Song Jung Ki) and Seo Eun Gi (Moon Chae Won) started a new love as a happy ending of the drama. Even in the next paragraph, Song Jung Ki himself said this, “I thought because Writer Lee Kyeong Hee usually gives a sad ending to her other dramas, this drama will have a sad ending too. But, personally I like happy ending. If it’s a movie, to have a sad ending might be good, but for drama, happy ending for viewers is better. I’m satisfied with the ending.”

  30. yey happy ending although i thought kang ma ru will die actually i love if he dies weird but i love tragic ending anyway worth of waiting this drama to come on end love song joongki oppa hes the reason why i watch this drama and worth it because he give justice to the character…..hope for more drama for him he deserve it hope he wins award and dedicate again to his blind grandmother…..love this drama the best and tear jerker…thanks for the very elaborate summary really understand the story because of your summary. hope you can do this in kdrama MISSING YOU

  31. anyeong, thank you so much for giving the summary for the entire episodes of this drama..i am also happy that this drama ends with maru and eun gi together BUT am also disappointed with the way the writer “wrapped up” the drama in its ending. there are so many loose ends and it seems that what happened to every character in this drama was presented in a “chopped-chopped” way that you have to guess or imagine what happened for example to TAESAN, who took over it, etc. which is for me is the main conflict of this drama presented in every episode.. anyway,
thank you to the writer Lee Kyeong Hee for the wonderful drama and hope to watch another drama from you.Congrats also to the cast, crew, staff, director and everyone in this drama. This is my first experience watching korean drama and am quite satisfied. I thought korean dramas, actors and actresses are awful but am mistaken.. Good job and God bless.

  32. I have a question. IF Ma Ru did lose his memory why did he propose to Eun Gi? Like was he pretending or did he suddenly remember or did he just have a feeling that Eun gi was the one? I’m sorta confused there

  33. maru did not have amnesia, he suffered from prosopagnosia or facial blindness..please watch the scene maru talking to the girl (patient), he explained to the girl what is the effect of his surgery. or please read about prosopagnosia for better understanding..

am just curious, can anybody especially a korean in blood answer this. in reality, do koreans really kiss that way as projected in this drama by maru and eun gi?.when korean lovers kissed passionately, either one of them does not embrace or hug his partner or return the kiss passionately?? either one of them just stood frigidly as if a statue while the other kisses her or him??? am just wondering…..

    • I had the same question as you. But then I saw some other Korean films on youtube, not made for TV, and not teenage romantic comedies, and in them they did kiss realistically, and there were sex scenes and all.
It seems that the dramas (TV series) are made for family audiences, therefore there is a strict code about kisses. There was another drama, House of Bluebird, with very very passionate feelings and dramatic intense scenes between them, and still in all the 50 episodes the couple doesn’t even exchange a single kiss. They do have a couple of hugs, though.

Usually when there’s a hug, if you have noticed, one must also do “pat pat” with the hand on the back of the other person, so that it suggests a friendly/patronizing hug (“There, there!”) rather than a passionate love hug.

In romantic comedies made for cinema, not for TV, there are some kisses, but “Korean style”, just as you described: just the immobile touching of closed lips, without a hug, keeping a little distance so that there is no other body contact. And one of the partners must open and roll his/her eyes wide in surprise. This last thing is done so routinely that it’s exasperating.

  34. thank’s for that recap.Gomawo…i thought i doesn’t have any recap for two last episode since the episode will appearing in next week.
Mybe i’m to bored for waiting this drama ended.Lastly I try to find any recap could be relate to this drama.Thank you again!!!
really happy since both of them will ended together lastly…

  35. awesome recap! You’re so good. now i could sleep soundly.. i just thought He wouldn’t remember her.. and at that moment my heart sank.. but reading this made me feel hopeful and relieve! Thank you for this..

  36. Omgggggggg … thank you so much <3

    very nice ending…..

  38. Thanks for your summaries. I liked reading them! :D

  39. thank you so much for ur hard work, i really appreciate it.. :)

  40. Thank you so much for a complete data of Nice guy’s episode 20. I really like the story. After a bitter experience their life both end up happily. Even though I already watch it, I still reading it’s summary. I love the story so much.

  41. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. I love how you tell the story! people can understand it easier than others.. keep the up the good work

  43. Hey there! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but after reading
through some of the post I realized it’s new to me. Nonetheless, I’m definitely happy I found it
and I’ll be book-marking and checking back frequently!

    my web site – Sexchatsexchat

  44. infact u ar good talented thank u so much bt Eun Gi is still there and i took her 4 ma side coz i love her 2 much?

  45. The ending kind of doesnt make sense to me. Since his problem was only not to be able to recognize faces, the memories are there. Why does it take 7 years for him to notice tat eun gi is eun gi? During tat 7 years, why is he living in a different side of the country when he still has his sis n best friend? Living with them is still a normal life. So to me, the ending.. 7 years to recognize Eun gi? Isnt it weird?

  46. Thenm why not finger out what’s tge best ending for this drama.

  47. Then why not you finger out what’s the best ending for this drama.

  48. tanks alot, i didnt watch the final episode but with this i don’t need to. It’s a good thing that Maru Gain his memory back,
